If so, you’re not alone. Many people in Chicago come to the Calm Anxiety CBT Clinic for this very reason.

To be clear, anxiety is a natural emotion that all of us experience. That said, there can come a point where these feelings become so strong that they overwhelm. This is particularly true if you struggle with an anxiety disorder.

Here are a few examples of how anxiety can manifest.

Does any of the above sound familiar? Let’s turn our attention now to how anxiety coaching may help you find new ways of working through.

Anxiety Coaching Strategies

Too often friends, family, and even therapists will urge you to just ignore the feelings, or provide coping tactics that only help you from moment to moment. This type of advice doesn’t approach anxiety as a whole, and won’t help you achieve long-lasting change.

The best way to work through anxiety, and transform your life is by addressing three essential elements: your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. As your anxiety coach, your specialist will work with you to create a completely customized program that addresses all three elements in ways that work for your lifestyle and needs.

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety

Cognitive behavioral therapy (also known as CBT) is one of the best methods you can use for overcoming anxious thoughts and the behaviors that follow. While emotion will play a strong role in your emotional experience, managing how you respond and react to those feelings are extremely critical.

It’s important to realize that CBT is not about ignoring your fear or feelings. In fact, it’s critical to acknowledge what’s going on inside as a first step. Only then can you examine your reactions, and find a way to respond that are more productive. Using this framework, your coach will work with you to understand where your anxious feelings are coming from. Once accomplished, meaningful coping strategies are developed so that you can lean into them during times of need.

Using Mindfulness for Managing Anxious Emotions

While cognitive behavioral therapy is a great way to manage thoughts and behaviors, it cannot address emotions directly. One of the most unique ways to do so is via mindfulness.

Mindfulness works by bypassing the conscious mind and instilling a sense of peace and calm directly in your subconscious mind. Emotions actually happen before thoughts, so learning to manage them directly is extremely powerful.

Anxiety Coaching Can Teach You About Stress Inoculation

Keep in mind that mindful interventions are always hypnotic interventions, where a magician is able to wave a wand or other object and achieve complete mind control. In science-backed mindfulness techniques you’ll experience in the office, you are an active participant, and can control what suggestions you absorb. So if you’re open peace and calm, you’ll only engage in activities that are compatible with that goal.

Are You Ready to Reduce Anxiety?

Together, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness are a powerful combination to help you reduce, manage, and even lessen anxiety. The process will take work, cooperation, and patience. But, if you’re open to it, your life and health can be transformed.

Reach out today to schedule an introductory call. This may be the best time in your life to take the first steps towards reducing anxiety. Just give us a call at (773) 234-1350.

How Does an Anxiety Coach Work?

The first step in the process is to schedule a 15-minute introductory call to make sure we’re a good fit. During this conversation you’ll be asked to share a bit about your situation, and answer any questions your counselor can to help sure you’re comfortable.

Then, you’ll have a longer, discovery call to uncover your goals more in-depth. You’ll be free to share your situation, and ask any questions that are weighing on your mind.  Then you’ll be asked some questions about you–your job, family, and overall health–so your counselor can create a customized road map that will work for your life and situation.

This initial meeting will last about 60 minutes, and can be set up at our office in Lakeview, on the North Side of Chicago, or through a tele-health video program we use that is HIPAA compliant.

After the initial meeting, you will continue meeting as often as is appropriate for your situation–this can mean multiple times per week, or just every once in a while when you need extra support. Either way, you’re going to have homework. Change doesn’t happen in an office; it comes after consistent effort. But don’t worry.  Your anxiety coach will gently hold you accountable, and work with you through every step of the process.
